QATAR ( Country in the Middle East )

Capital:- Doha. 

• Extends about 160 km from north to south and 80 km from east to west.

 • Shares a border with Saudi Arabia. 

• Shares maritime borders with United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Iran.

 • Most of the land is flat, low-lying desert.

 • AbÅ« al-Bawl Hill (103 metres) - highest point in the country. 

• Sand dunes and salt flats - southern and southeastern sectors.


Economy:-

  • Migrant workers - mostly from India, Pakistan, and Iran outnumber nationals.
  • Derived from the extraction and export of petroleum and natural gas.
  • Native Qataris enjoyed one of the highest per capita incomes in the world by the 1970s.



• Political condition:-

  • A constitutional emirate with one advisory body called Shoura council.
  • Ruled by a hereditary emir from the Al Thani.
  • Members of the ruling family hold almost all the major ministerial posts.
  • New constitution was enacted in 2005.
  • A new National Assembly with two-thirds members popularly elected and one-third appointed.
  • Current Shura Council is un-elected and only advises the absolute ruler.
